Born in Moab, Utah, he is a graduate of the University of Phoenix (B.S., Business Administration, 2003) and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School (J.D., 2006) where he worked with the Sixty Plus Elderlaw Clinic and the Ann Arbor Public Defenders Clinic. He served in the Utah Army National Guard from 1989 to 1997.
